Bold Monk is a German-themed brewpub that opened in Atlanta in 2019. I worked on the branding during the project’s initial stages, helping to craft a distinctly modern visual identity rooted in the traditional German past.

I explored two distinct directions. The first embraces a traditional woodcut feel- evoking old Germanic pubs with its iconographic approach and sharp, angular type that manages to keep one foot in the past and the other in the present.

The second celebrates the inherent playfulness of beer culture, evoking the past with a stylized approach that appreciates tradition but isn’t afraid of the future.
